“Romeo And Juliet” è un capolavoro della rock band inglese Dire Straits pubblicata nel 1980 nell’album Making Movies.
Può essere considerata una vera e propria ballad tipica della letteratura inglese: presenta un dialogo tra i due personaggi shakespeariani in strofe di quattro versi con rima baciata, arricchito da assonanze ed allitterazioni.
Il testo però è anche autobiografico, in quanto l’autore Mark Knopfler accosta la vicenda di Romeo e Giulietta alla sua storia d’amore con la cantante americana Holly Vincent.
Il brano è aperto da un meraviglioso arpeggio di chitarra suonato da Mark Knopfler che è anche colui che canta questo brano dalla dolcezza e bellezza infiniti.
